Studio Client / David Ashley

Calligrapher, printer and bookbinder David Ashley first met Ray Tomasso in 1980.  Since then the David Ashley Studio has used Ray’s papers to produce many memorable pieces, most notably:

An official gift from the city of Denver to Pope John Paul II, 1993;

The Colorado Council on the Arts Awards, 1997;

A presentation award for King Juan Carlos I of Spain, 2001, on paper made from Spanish linen.

David regularly uses Ray’s paper for calligraphic poems, quotations and awards for clients who appreciate that it is both local and produced by hand.

He also uses Ray’s handmade paper for end sheets and title pages and, because of its superior strength, as reinforcing hinges and spine linings in bookbinding.
